The humanities and social sciences are currently undergoing a fundamentalchange, which is described by the buzzword "digital humanities". This does not onlymean that computers and statistical analysis methods have been used in these sciencesfor many years. In contrast, digital humanities aims at a more fundamental change, atnew intersections of digital technology and the humanities and social sciences, and thisprimarily in three areas:
The establishment of genuinely new methods (computational humanities), thedigital transformation of traditional methodologies and reflection on the socialconsequences of digitisation.
The contribution has three main aims:
Firstly, it presents examples of how the digital transformation is changingresearch and publication practices in the cultural and social sciences, whatadditional benefits the new or renewed methods have and how this also affectsreflection on societal problems.
Secondly, the article describes application areas and methods of digitalhumanities.
Thirdly, the paper asks what demands this places on university education and thefurther training of academic staff, in Vietnam in particular
